Along with the statistical information enlarging and constantly increase in the social demand of statistical information year by year, especially with the actualization of Henan statistical information project, the demand of statistical information databases that are easy to operate, easy to maintenance and easy to expanding, is put forward. To satisfy modern statistical work, Henan province statistical bureau developed Henan Statistical Colligation Database Management System (HSCDMS). Taking this system as the foundation, this paper expounds the database technology related and experience acquired from participating in the developing work.The disadvantages of the traditional two-tier client/server computing model, such as its capability, its security, its expansibility, etc, become more and more evident. Three-tier client/server computing model overcomes the disadvantages, so it becomes the prevalent distributed computing model. The component technology is the technical foundation of three-tier client/server model. Because the standards of component become more and more mature, three-tier and n-tier client/server computing model can come true.This paper elaborates the design and implementation of HSCDMS that is based on three-tier computing model. According to the real circumstance of Henan statistical work, the system adopts Oracle 8i, which runs under Windows NT, and Visual Basic 6.0, which can offer object oriented method, as background database and foreground programming tool respectively.First, this paper introduces the reason to develop HSCDMS and its technical background of bringing. Then, in the second chapter, this paper discusses the hierarchy of three-tier, the function of each tier, the advantages of three-tier client/server model compared with two-tier, several configuring plans that implement three-tier model. In the third chapter, the paper introduces the component technology and the two engineering standards of component. The analysis, design and implementation of HSCDMS are dicussesed in the fourth, fifth chapter. In the end, thenauthor prospects the Henan Statistical Colligation Database Management System (HSCDMS) based on three-tier client/server computing model, and analyzes the existence and future of this system.Now, HSCDMS has accomplished the developing assignment. It has been putting into test_running in Henan province statistical bureau. From the result of test_running, this system has attached the goal of designing, the using result is good. With this system, people can more convenience, more quickly and more accurately inquire, manage, maintain the statistical information.
