On The Heyday Of "declaration" (1931-1935)

Shen Daily,a comprehensive daily newspaper,with its longest time of publication and the greatest influence in modern and contemporary China,acted an important role in the history of journalism in China . Its 77 years long newspaper-running experiences witnessed the social changes of China as well as the ups and downs of its own business.The period from 1931 to 1935 can be regarded as the one of Shen Daily's great prosperity. Taking the September 18th Incident as a turning point,Shen Daily transformed from a bourgeois commercial newspaper to a progressive one with intensive worrying mentality and social responsibility. Moreover,the transform was followed by innovation and prosperity. Shen Daily's newspaper-running theory,measures and managing pattern in this period are all valuable enough to be as a sample for the research in the private-running newspaper in China,however,the systematical and thorough research of Shen Daily in this period is blank in China journalism history so far. In this thesis,I present systematically Shen Daily's undertakings from 1931 (the September 18th Incident ) to 1935 ( the Dec. 9th movement). On the basis of it,I attempt to draw a tentative theoretical summary and hope that the experience of Shen Daily can be made use of by today's press practice in China.The thesis consists of four parts. The preface offers a brief introductions of the history of Shen daily and of my reason to choose this period (1931-1935) as my researching object. In the second part,through the social political,economic and cultural background which promoted the important change of Shen Daily,I try to show the mutual action between the transform of journalism and the social system. In the third part,I give a detailed description of the achievements of Shen Daily. In the last part,I want to testify,from the brief brilliance of Shen Daily,that:to run a newspaper successfully,there are at least five indispensible rules to be followed:sticking to a just stand;knowing how to judge and use people;pursuing bold innovation ;showing great foresight and press practicers should be armed with a sense of fearlessness for power.
