Along with the data terminal equipment applying in modern life widely such as personal digital assistant (PDA) and portable computer (PC), traditional local area network converts to wireless local area network (WLAN). As to the enterprise local area networks in office, the complex line not only destroys beautiful design but also always leads to mistake between power line and data line which mangle the hardware. It is difficult to maintain the networks operation. In some special occasion such as field reconnaissance, outdoor experiment and so on, we need to exchange important data between equipments by floating networks. So we must find an effective method to solve information communion problem.To solve the above problems existing in the enterprise local area networks, a new method to build wireless local area network based on infrared communication is presented in this paper. Infrared communication is cheap, rapid and limitless bandwidth. Because it is not interfered by wireless signal and high reliability, so it can exert technology advantage in office or laboratory application.This paper includes five parts such as the base communication theory of infrared, infrared communication system, infrared communication protocol, experiment system design and hardware circuit. The two discretional equipments can realize mutual communication in the wireless local area network based on infrared. We designed the interface circuit between infrared transceiver and COM port of computer, the interface circuit between infrared transceiver and interface HUB, infrared HUB circuit. According to hardware circuit, we programmed corresponding software such as link control of infrared HUB, data transfers control, communication control interface of extension and logic relation of complex programmable logic device (CPLD).Much work has been done in this paper. Discussed severial wireless local area network project, brought out a new design project based on infrared communication by comparing different system projects. Infrared transceiver includes infrared transceiver chip RPM851 and infrared encoding/decoding chip TIR1000, accorded with IrDAl.O standard, accomplished the function such as infrared signal receiving, transmitting, encoding and series of decoding. Extend the COM port by two piece chips TL16C554, complex programmable logic device boost up the system agility andmaneuverability. The two discretional equipments can realize mutual communication in the wireless local area network based on infrared by control function of single chip.
