In the last several years, Internet and mobile communication have witnessed their great developments, and the combination of the two is mobile computing. On the basis of summarizing, analyzing and comparing available research about mobile computing, this thesis brings forth an integrating network framework about mobile computing. In the framework, we define three entities and six layers. The three entities are: mobile terminal, wireless/wired integrating point and content server. The six layers are: wireless physical layer, wireless data-link layer, network layer, transport layer, mobile computing application supporting Environment, and application layer. In this article, we analyze the framework according to layers. For each of the layers, we first introduce the corresponding technology of wired Internet, then we point out challenges and problems of extending the technology into mobile computing, thirdly we classify the problems and discuss solutions for them. The specific contents we focus on are: MAC protocols, route, congestion, handoff, MobilelP, wireless and mobile TCP, application adaptation, QOS and Security.On the basis of analyzing the framework, we utilize specific standards and commercial systems to do a deep case study. The standards and commercial systems are: Bluetooth, GSM, 802.11,standard for MANET's routing, standard for MobilelP, standard for wireless TCP, and WAP. Then, we discuss the implementation of WAP over GSM, we also bring forward many practical models about how to implement mobile computing, and these models are: software framework of mobile terminal, implementing model for state protocol, and WAPGW/V1.0. Compared with the available research about mobile computing, our work, the integrating framework and its case study with implementation, has some original and advanced character.
