We have brought forward a new workflow model-Extended XinPai-Drived Workflow Computing Model based on XinPai-Drived Workflow Computing Model, integrated with the workflow standard semantic model described by Workflow Process Definition Language (WPDL) and established by Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC). Then we developed a J2EE based workflow management system prototype-J2EE-WFMS basing on that model. We use middle ware to develop the prototype system so it's platform independent and can be used in distributed environment. This also has reduced the developing difficulty and intensity. For the use of standard workflow semantic model of workflow management coalition, this system may produce standard WPDL textual workflow model definition. And it can interpret and use workflow model definitions designed by other workflow management system, if only they are according to the standard WPDL textual workflow model definition. The system has realized the reuse of workflow process definition.This paper has discussed about the theoretical model and architecture of J2EE based workflow management system, and the design and implementation of a workflow definition tool.
