OLE for Process Control (OPC), which is the application of Microsoft Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) technology in process control system, provides a unifIed standard for Object-Oiiented Design in industnal automation software. A standard mechanism for communicating to numerous data sources, either devices on the factory floor, or a database in a control room is the motivation for OPC.Starting from the design of industrial control software, this dissertation points out the disadvantages of the conventional control software design, which are bad openness, inefficient reuse and poor flexibility By analyzing the characteristics of the industrial monitoring and control software (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition System) and the requirement of modern industrial control system, the dissertation presents a new industrial software design technology - OPC component design technology to meet the demands of the open SCADA system.Based on the COM principle, the dissertation introduces the architecture of OPC and its object and interface in detail, and the great benefit OPC brings tothe industry. Furthermore, the paper disserts the implementation principle and application technology of OPC in the practical projecthe design and development of Suining wastewater SCADA system. This system uses the RockwellSoftware package RSView32 as the SCADA design software, which can simply and easily accomplish the communication between the SCADA system and the field devices. In the end, the paper exposes the implementation steps of the OPC Client/Server arid the design steps and process of the OPC Data Access Server.OPC brings a revolution for the software and hardware integration of the industrial control system, it denotes the ftiture trend of the communicationstandard of process control system.
