With the rapid development of Internet and the great growth of information, thedatabase techology has infiltrated into the daily life. The database system based onthe Client/Server structure is often adopted now. In this structure, the databaseresides on the Server and the application programs exist on the Client, so many userscan access to the database efficiently at the same time. The database product Oracle 8includes many new database technologies such as distributed technology and object-oriented technology. The object-oriented language PowerBuilder is one of the mostrepresentative tools for developing the database applications. It provides diverseinterface with database and utilizes the Data Window technology which fits thetrend of COM and it make the programmer's work more efficient.This dissertation discusses the design and development of satellite earth stationdata management system based on the Oracle 8 and PowerBuilder. This systemimplements automatic archiving of the satellite data. The data managementintegrated with GIS can provide abundance geographical information. The records ofimage and scene data produced by the sub-system of earth station are transmitted tothe database server as file format according to the interface protocol and backupedonto tapes.The paper summarizs the common technology and method when designingand developing the C/S structure database application. Moreover the articleintroduces some new technology and issues involving with database application.
