The essay adopts a mixture of quantitative and qualitative analysis to dig into the research of employment system of Shanghai Education Press Group. It launched a case-by-case study on this professional media group, asking questions about "identity problems" of employees in China's newspaper industry as well as the reform and development of media industry. Through substantial investigation and analysis of the Shanghai Education Press Group's employment system, the author gave approaches into two research aspects. First, the reason of the existence of multiple employment systems in the newspaper industry. The author tries to show different payment the newspaper employees received under such systems. Second, the author explains the relationship between such system and power which hides behind the complicated multiple employment systems. Under influence of an economical globalization, China's newspaper industry has to reform and build itself into a brand-new image to adapt to the globalized environment. On the other hand, the traditional Chinese employment system—which emphasizes a different treatment between old employees and new staff—greatly hinders the current media industry reform due to its inadequate mercerization and socialization.
