Electronic Tags To Improve The Computer Asset Management Processes

In currently world, more and more people's working base on computers. For enterprises, the computer has become an important asset. However, computer has many different features with other traditional asset, the fast specification upgrading, mobility, etc. Traditional asset management approach cannot cover needs from the computer asset management.The IT Asset Management Team have four members working at different locations of the world, when they manage more than thirty thousand computers, they always asking support from other team. But involve other team resources is temporary solution and cannot deal with computer increase with business expansion. Thus, the electronic tags to become a top priority and we create one project to apply it.This thesis doing brief the steps of deploy electronic tags in the company, the project how to plan/evaluation/apply, and get some achievement. The goal of projects is, electronic tags make all of computer can be tracked within whole asset management process, and can get every status anytime. Through Microsoft's SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager) Asset Intelligence component, The Asset Management Team can managing computer asset dynamically. iTrack system is our central asset DB, we keep the DB still centralization, and add more standard computer specification information and asset information from our vendor. We also make the iTrack DB as asset baseline data and share with other team.After projects, The IT Asset Management Team can centrally manage over thirty thousand computer, only four people. A lot of manual works replaced by automatic task or script. The project also created new Asset Management Process. The new process not only resolved the confusing asset management issues, and also make the asset management is easy/simply. So far, except IT Asset Management Team, other team needn't involve into asset management tasks. New process makes all of these team got clear responsibility and effective working. Stand the perspective of the entire company, not only the asset management has been more efficiency, and released half of human resources than before. Dynamic asset data provides strong support for other IT project. Now, new asset management process is perfect tool for IT daily working.
