With the development of the computer network and Internet technology,digital and information management in the army, is becoming more and mor significant for the modernization of the troops. In order to ensure the demand in the building up of China's national defense and the normal operation of daily work ,it is a common sense that we should take advantage of the high technologies in the building up of China's national defense . At present the sentry management and monitoring are mainly managed in the light of the manual mode,so the information of the perrsonnel on duty can not appear automaticly real-time.The WebGIS is combined with Web technology and GIS technology . WebGIS has the characteristics of simulating real world, The real world will display on the screen by map which can be zoomed into and query information. Secondly, it also can update of data in real-time, the data in the database can be shown on the map in real-time. Using WebGis technology in In the military sentry management can solve the defects and limitations of old sentry management system,it can implement sentry visual monitoring and management,and update the location information of working sentinel in real time at system.So,sentry positioning system based on WebGIS have a huge advantage.In the paper, a WebGIS sentry positioning system has been designed by using the software engineering technology, database technology, Web technology, RFID technology and technical analyze and WebGIS technology. This paper gives a detailed account of the design and process of the sentry positioning system. Its main contents are as follows:First, it introduces the basic theoretical knowledge of GIS, and also analyzes system frameworks of achieving the WebGIS. According to the advantages and disadvantages of the two system frameworks,the adopted framework will be selected finally by the system's demand. Second, it analyzes the principle of Geoserver–WebGIS server. Geoserver has two web services-WFS and WMS. WMS is used to generate the map in Geoserver, WFS is used to query the data from the geographic vector data in Geoserver.Third, It analyzes the theory of WebGIS spatial database in the paper.Using the oracle spatial as spatial database management software in the system,then it analyzes that how to use oracle spatial to manage the spatial data. In the final,it discusses the index techniques of spatial database,and creates the appropriate spatial database index for the system database.Fourth, it analyzes the programming principles of WebGIS client.The client-side programming adopts the embedding openlayers script in JSP.Openlayers is used exclusively in developing the JS framework .Finally, it analyzes the requirement of the sentry positioning system, and designs the functional models.At last partition of every function module achieves the the sentry positioning system code.
