With the rapid development of Internet, the demand of high-speed access network increases steadily. Ethernet Passive Optical Network(EPON) comes forth in this situation. EPON is more advanced combining Ethernet with PON, which provides a high-speed platform for the data, audio and video.However, this technique has some weakness that it can not satisfy the demand of delay and delay variation of the traditional TDM servic e. On the other hand, most of users in commercial buildings have the demand of TDM service. So this problem needs to be settled. Acccording to the principles of EPON and TDM service,this thesis analyzes the QoS feasibility (synchronization, delay variation, packet loss) of transmitting TDM service over EPON and introduces the solution scheme and hardware realization.This thesis stems from the EPON construction practice of Chengde telecom, which began in 2010, including conducting the plan, experimenting and carrying out.The thesis introduces the operationing principle, key technologys and advantages about EPON, then strongly points out some disadvantages in Chengde telecom current access network, such as high cost in access network construction and operating maintenance, poor management, insufficient bandwidth, single service, etc. Furthermore, The thesis provides the full services solution models, making use of EPON, to meet the communication requirements of the enterprise and public customers, and compares the EPON technology with the traditional access network models in the cost of construct, the cost of operating maintenance, the quality of commu-nication, the ablity to service, and puts forward that it is obvious that the EPON has great advantages. In order to prove that EPON can provide full services access such as TDM, data and Internet, a strict function testing was going on including time delay, packet loss, El simulation, flow control and interoperability. Finally, the thesis points out the access network planning princip les of making use of the EPON technology, in which the construction pr inciples of OLT and ODN are strongly brought out from economy,extensi blity and maintenance. Meanwhile, through the two typical application in commercial buildings and residential areas, the thesis further pro-ves that EPON can be widely adopted in access network projcets.
