The system for video capturing and encoding processing based on ARM9 studied in this project is presented in the background which the video telecommunication concept was deepin everywhere of society. Take the Beijing Olympic in 2008 as an example, you can't deny that audiences outside the courts could receive the live show of the games is by the reason of video telecommunication's prosperity. At present, the popularizing of 3G telecommunication standard and researching of 4G telecommunication standard are both standards oriented at video telecommunication. Further more, the popularizing encoder standard H.264 played an important role in video telecommunication's thriving.As the huge potential of video telecommunication industry, equipments applied in video conference, video phone and video monitor have enough room in the market. But, at present, some of researches which have been done or being done are basically based on micro-processors S3C44B0X or S3C2410, which is cheap, and the entire system are economic to be implemented. However, the work frequencies of these micro-processors are too low to code real-timely. And the others are based on dual core, such as ARM and DSP, which is apparently advanced in coding performance, but products based on this are too expensive to be popularized. Because of the variety and uncertainty in this field, I put forward an innovative solution in order to obtain a balance between performance and cost, fighting for more market room.The system based on the S3C2440A microprocessor and Linux operation system. At first, I extended the peripheral devices according to the requirements and ported the scalable Linux operating system to the environment. Then, a video encoder model named X264 was ported to the system, implemented the function of video capturing and processing. By analyzing the experiment data, it shows that the system can capture and encode the image efficiently, and with good quality. As the quantity parameter assigned as 36(QP=36), the speed of the encoder is 34.83fps, which almost meet the need of real-time encoding requirement.
