City Television News Production And Broadcast Network Design And Practice

Currently infomationization has become the world's economic and social development trend. Cross-media platform is the direction for broadcast media development. In China, infomationization is one of the top priorities in the nation's development strategy. Along with the great innovations occurred in media industry, the role of radio & television broadcaster has changed from the single content provider to the content operator and integrator, which brings more challenges and requirements for the production, management and presentation of television news programs. To manage the production and distribution of news program safely and efficiently is an important task and a key topic for all the broadcasters. According to the characteristics of the city television station and the difficulties or the challenges for city television station news production and broadcast, especially the practice of NingBo news production and broadcast networks project, this article illustrates a deep analysis on solutions and key technologies of the distributed news production modular network, striving to provide a reference for the construction of news broadcast networks for domestic city television stations.Recently, news networks, in most cases, are constructed according to a centralized model with dedicated network disposition and tight coupling architecture, which does not favor the systems to be built by stages. Lacking for effective and secure technical methods for news material recycling and data exchanging, traditional news production and broadcast networks can hardly support the news programs distribution via IPTV or internet. Furthermore, there is no unified technical interface standard for integrating the applications from a large variation of news subsystems constructed by different vendors in different stages. These problems have become the bottlenecks for the application of the internetized news production, as well as for the quality and efficiency for the construction of news production systems.In order to solve these problems, in our research and practice, the main integrated platform for news operation is designed based on service-oriented architecture. Moreover, an independently deployed news studio online presentation system is developed to optimize the production process. With the distributed and modularized design for news production and distribution system, the timeliness of news broadcasting and the quality of new programs can be improved. Also it can reinforce broadcasting safety, promote the integration of multi-channel news resources, achieve news production resource sharing, and optimize the process of news production.A method for solving the technical problems in system design and integration for distributed and modularized news production and broadcast network is addressed in this paper, which leads to a solution for building news broadcast network for TV stations. This research is of general importance for broadcast industry.
