Chinese traditional culture has long been strict with the control of personal sexual behaviors, and sexual related behaviors are also strictly controlled by marriage. But with the establishment of market economy system in china, liberalist ideology has contests with Chinese traditional culture and forms of economic life. As a result, the attitude taken by Chinese people toward sexual behaviors and ideas changed astonishingly. Since 1990s, sexual liberation and premarital cohabitation have become common occurrence, at the same time; the events of abortion of Chinese unmarried women are increasing fast. Therefore, the author decides to conduct studies on abortion experiences of unmarried working women in cities. Based on the theory of social control and from the point of unit, family and community, the author describes the current situations of abortion and has a deep analysis of the causes by means of questionnaire inquiry and In-depth Interview. Here are the findings:1. As for the working women in units under market economy, the units no longer concern their private affairs, and of course have no right on the control of their abortions. On the contrary, for the women working in units under reallocation system, the control still remains.2. During the period of social transition, family system and relationships has changed a lot. parent authority is weakening, and the relations among family members are equalizing. Economic independence and living separately from their parents have destroyed generational control and obedience which root in parent authority. As a result, family control over the abortions of Chinese unmarried women weakened or even disappeared.3. The spiritual life in metropolis helps to bring about " some spaces " where unmarried working women could choose their lifestyle freely, these " spaces" include urban population's anonymity, inclusive public opinion, the communities' failure in controlling abortions of Chinese unmarried women.
