China is an agricultural country, and the rural population accounts for 80%. The low scientific quality severely constrains the development of economy and society in the rural areas, and hinders the application of the strategies such as 揻lourishing our country through science and technology and he sustainable development etc. It has a long way to go to improve the accomplishments of science of farmers and accelerate the construction of aterial civilization and spiritual civilization in the rural areas. This paper, from the aspects of the implications, roles, characteristics and regularity of the education of the science popularization in the rural areas, preliminarily discusses its general theories. From the angles of Pedagogy and sociology and so on, this paper elucidates its theoretical basis. Based on the principle of combining theory with practice, connecting with the actual situations of our country, this paper systematically analyses the present state of science popularization in the rural areas. From the aspects of subjectivity and objectivity, the paper discusses the existent problems in education in terms of organizations and subjects, contents, means, working mechanisms etc. In addition, from the perspectives of the relationship between scientific culture and popular culture, the investment of the education of science popularization in the rural areas and farmers requirements for science and technology, the paper analyzes the reasons which lead to these problems. In view of these problems and reasons, the author puts forward several suggestions for the reformation of the education of science popularization in the rural areas: to renew the concept of education, to promote people understanding of science popularization in the rural areas; to enlarge the channels for the collection of flmds, to increase the investment in the education of science popularization; to clarify the objects of the education of science popularization, and to ascertain different contents; to reform the education in the rural areas to improve the farmers educational level; to establish the sound spreading systems for the education of science popularization in the rural areas so as to strengthen the education means; to improve the performance of the management of the education of science popularization in the rural areas, so as to guarantee the quality of science popularization.
