As a significant part of social culture, gender culture has a consistent development goal which is to establish an equal culture. Textbook is the first staff that reaches students and the most representative epitome of micro-society, leaving deep influence on teenagers’ physical and mental development. Middle school students have strong imitativeness and plasticity, therefore, the static gender consciousness information inside textbooks will apparently impact the forming of teenagers’ gender culture concept and overall growth.Geography, a basic course with natural science and social studies features, will have sensible, subtle and important impact on middle school students both physically and mentally through the gender culture consciousness inside its textbooks. Based on feminism pedagogy and social cognitive theory, this paper takes three editions of middle school geography textbooks published by People’s Education Press (1995 edition before the new curriculum reform,2004 edition after the new curriculum and 2013 edition after the amendment to the curriculum standard of compulsory education geography) as research objects to conduct comparatively analysis research of the evolution characteristics of gender culture inside textbooks and finally analyze the reasons of gender culture evolution inside textbooks and the suggestions of textbook compilation.This paper is divided into five parts:The introduction section briefly introduces the background and meaning of this research, summarizes the present domestic and foreign research status and expounds the research goals, innovation points, research methods and technical routes. Made up of related concepts and theoretical basis, the second section mainly analyzes four concepts---gender, gender role, gender culture and textbook culture, and expounds two theoretical basis---feminism pedagogy and social cognitive theory. From frequency and role, the third section conducts frequency analysis about the picture number and character number of picture system and character amount, specific character and outstanding character of word system; conducts role analysis of characters’ professions, adult abilities and children activities; analyzes the status of male and female, amount change, proportion change and the scientificity and rationality of character distribution from each textbook edition and the general angle. The fourth section explores the three reasons of gender culture evolution inside textbooks and then proposes practical compilation suggestions from microcosmic angles. The fifth section sums up the conclusion of this paper and expounds the remaining problems for future research.
