In recent years, along with the rapid change of social culture, the gradual popularization of compulsory education, as well as the promoting function of feminism, the long existing concept that man is superior to woman in China is questioned and criticized unprecedentedly. As a result, eliminating gender prejudice and pursuing gender equality have become the important research topics in today’s society. Many domestic scholars have discussing the current education system, school education and gender consciousness in the teaching process from the gender equality view, and they believe that education is the one effective way to promote gender equality. Although the existing education policy has showed gender equality, many scholars find there is still gender bias in education practice after some research on textbooks.In this research, the author aims to making more people understand that there is still gender inequality, gender stereotypes and the thought of female subordination in primary school textbooks in China, and arousing the recognition of relevant departments which are wished to reflect the concept of gender equality in the reform of primary Chinese textbooks and equip themselves correct gender knowledge. With the concept of gender equality, teachers can be free from the traditional education and guide the student to set up the gender equality on concept.This research mainly calculates and compares the article author, topic, protagonist, all roles, single picture and the different number of males and females in picture of primary Chinese textbooks of Hubei Province in a quantitative method. It finds the number of male and female roles is different. These textbooks tend to focus on the male role. In other words, the number of women is far lower than that of men. By analyzing the detailed descriptions of both genders through the text analysis method, the author finds that there is still a gender stereotype in textbooks. Although the traditional gender images have been rebuilt, this effort is far from enough. The cultural and ideological arrangements in the textbooks conflicts with the basic state policy of gender equality between men and women, which is bound to bring certain negative influence to the student and is not conducive to form a democratic, diverse gender value.The gender inequality in primary school Chinese textbook should not only be paid attention to, but also provided effective solutions. This study puts forward some suggestions, such as the cultivating the gender equality awareness of textbook writers, putting the gender equality concept into the textbooks, teaching the mastery of gender equality and so on. It is wished to have the true gender equity in the textbooks and in the society through adjusting the textbook writing and the driving the change by social culture and regime. Finally, these changes will contribution to gender harmony in the world.
