This article takes Shuyang High Scholl, Jiangsu Province as the object of study. With the help of questionnaire, classroom observation, interview, and document retrieval methods, the investigation was carried out on the situation of history teaching in Shuyang High School. Based on the problems discovered, the article analyzes the causes of the problems, and puts forward some countermeasures to solve them, so as to provide reference for the majority of history educators, and to improve the quality of history teaching in the whole province, especially in those county high schools in underdeveloped areas.This article includes four parts.The first chapter is an introduction, which briefly describes the background, purpose, significance and method of this study, and introduces the selection of the object as well as its basic situation.The second chapter is the third part. Through questionnaires, interviews, classroom observation, and information processing method, it thoroughly analyzes the teaching facilities, teachers, students, classroom practice of history teaching in Shuyang High School. It points out that positive changes have taken place since the implementation of the new curriculum. For example, new teaching ideas are spreading in teachers. Teaching methods are constantly updated. It also analyzes the current problems of history teaching and its reasons. For instance, the teaching mode is single; the teaching procedure is mechanized; teaching philosophy, methods, means, and mode are still in the transition period, with a strong brand of traditional teaching; the value of history education is not fully displayed; the evaluation mechanism of teaching is unreasonable.The third chapter deals with the countermeasures for improving history teaching in high schools. To solve the existing problems and their causes, the author puts forward the specific strategies to improve history teaching in high school history teachers:to improve the overall quality and occupation moral level of history teachers; to reform the unreasonable teaching evaluation systems; to give full play to the positive role of teaching evaluation; to take flexible teaching methods and improve the effectiveness of history teaching according to the characteristics of history; to fully display the functions of the education departments and all levels of government; to promote the development of high school history education.
