Parent-child relationship is based on the kinship or the common life, and it is a unity ofnatural relationship and social relationship which is consisted of the interaction and mutualinfluence between parents and children, including the behavior of the interaction andcommunication between parents and children, etc. Parent-child relationship is not only the mostintimate and the most important relationship in a family, but also the earliest social relationshipin a child life, which has a profound effect on the children’s character creation, interpersonalcommunication and social adaptive ability in the future.“Parent-child relationship” is not only animportant research topic in the field of pedagogy, psychology, sociology and other disciplinesbut also an important narrative topic in children’s literature. Picture book is a very popular formof children’s literature, and it is an ideal carrier of parent-child reading. Picture book presents apluralistic world for parents and children through the combination of pictures and words. As akind of literature for children and parents, picture book reflects a children’s world whichincludes children’s mental word and a real word interaction with parents intensively and vividly.These texts are the collections of social phenomenon as well as children’ s psychologicalphenomenon observed by writers, which are more vivid material for studying parent-childrelationship.These texts provide us a novel perspective to study parent-child relationship.This article selects fifteen picture books which reflect the problems between parents andchildren intensively by the method of text analysis for studying. During the study, according tothe characteristics of picture book, the author tries to combine the language, the line, the colorthe brightness and detail of the pictures, understanding the theme of the story integrally. The firstpart of this article mainly introduces the definitions of “parent-child relationship” and” picturebook”, and discusses the unique value of studying parent-child relationship by picture booksfrom it’s “literary””full of children’s characteristics””sociality” and” instructional”. Thesecond part of this article divides “parent-child relationship” into “Discipline and punish”,”Understanding and barriers” and” Ignorance and lacking of love” based on the reflections of notharmonious parenthood by analyzing these texts preliminarily, and the reactions of children canbe divided into:“resistance and compromise”,“self adjusting and balancing” and”positivefeedback and action”. The third part of this article explains the factors which affect parents and children’s relationship through analyzing these texts and combining with the social reality fromthe viewpoints of society, parents and children. We find that the change of family structures, thefierce social competition, and the accelerated pace of life are the external causes. Theway parents raise children, the views of education and the views on children are the immanentcauses. We also can not ignore the children’s own factors. The last part of this article tries tofind the way to constructing harmonious parent-child relationship by the enlightenment of realitythrough the story picture books.
