The fast developing science and technology in the 21 st century has become the top priority of all the countries in comprehensive power competition. Under such an international context, all the countries are developing the awareness of the importance of scientific education, trying to improve the scientific quality of the whole nation by repeated education reform. The teaching materials have been playing an irreplaceable role in middle and primary school teaching, serving as a bridge between teachers and their teaching activities.A comparative analysis has been made in the thesis between the volume II teaching materials for nine-year compulsory education in the grade four of primary schools published by Jiangsu Education Publishing House and Hatton Mifflin teaching materials in the same grade of the US, trying to offer some references for teaching material compilation for our primary schools by analyzing the characteristics of the two sets of books.The whole thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter one is the part of introduction,which mainly introduces the reasons and significance of the research, straightens out of the related definitions and research status at home and aboard, and on such basis proposes the reasons for choosing primary school teaching materials.In chapter two it mainly discusses the development venation of the teaching materials in China and the US, and offers a detailed introduction of the current curriculum standards in primary schools of the two countries.In chapter three it mainly explores the similarities and differences in compositions of the compilers and guiding thoughts in compiling primary school teaching materials in the two countries.By analyzing the frame structures of primary school teaching materials of the two countries in chapter four, it has discovered their structures both include general catalogue, unit introduction and specific teaching suggestions, with the only difference lying in a richer horizontal structure in the version of Mifflin.While chapter five mainly introduces the contents of primary school teaching materials of the two countries and thus analyses their similarities and differences. By analysis, it discovers that the contents in both countries basically include such three parts—material compilation instruction, unit introduction, specific teaching proposals,while the concrete contents of these parts are widely divergent.And in chapter six, the main characteristics of the primary school teaching materials in both countries are summarized, and thus the deficiencies and corresponding solutions of Jiangsu version are also proposed, like enriching the composition of the compilers and adjusting teaching contents. |
