The High Kegong Research

Gao Kegong is an influential artist in the early Yuan Period. His life story and art works are full of mystery, therefore leading to confused identification and false tales about his works. This paper aims to analyze his origin systematically from in-depth evidence, and discover his characteristics from his friends circle, including his relationship with such famous artists as He Rongzu, Zhao Mengfu, Li Heng, Xian Yushu and Deng Wenyuan. The passing-down of his works and their present situation are also the focus of this paper which involves the creation period, works feature, genuineness of his works. The purpose is to make a deeper research on his master and apprentices, artistic style and art thoughts. Besides, by comparing the inheritance and development of Mi's landscape painting, the paper also explains the historical status and influence of Gao Kegong.
