This paper attempts to classify paronyms from etymological perspective and utilize them in Chinese teaching. This method is suitable for the learners who have acquired a faily large vocabulary. And also, it requires teachers to have basic the knowledge of ancient Chinese language. It ranks the groups of paraonyms by difficulties, and explans every group in detail.The first chapter is a survey of the conception, development and the principle of the etymology. It also explans why and how we apply etymology into Chinese class.The second chapter is to display the paronyms whose characters are phonograms. This chapter includes two groups. Words pronounced in the same (tones are ignored), and words pronounced differently. The vocabulary in this chapter is easy to teach because the phonograms helps.The third chapter displays the paronyms whose characters are different from others in the same group, but the pronunciations are similar. It also includes two groups. Words with same pronunciation (tones are ignored), and words pronounced similarly.The fourth chapter is an experiment to identify the efficiency of utilizing etymology in Chinese class.The last chapter is a conclusion. The efficiency is obvious about the efficiency of the Chinese teaching from the etymological perspective.
