Purpose: The aim of this study was to observe the moderating effects of Chinese traditional medicine (CTM) Shengfaling Granules to serum testosterone (T), estradiol (E2), triglceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TCHO) as well as the effects to hair on rats.Method: Seborrheic alopecia models were made on Wister rats which were subcutaneous injected with Testosterone Propionate Injection in 8 weeks continuously. In the meantime, model animals were divided into positive control group, and 3 Shengfaling Granules groups with high, middle, and low dose. Depilation observed after four weeks and blood sampled after eight weeks. The levels of serum T, E2, and lipids were determined by Radioimmunoassay (RIA) and Colorimetry respectively.Result: Comparing with the blank control group, the level of serum T had a significant rise (P<0.01), which demonstrated Seborrheic alopecia modeled successfully. Comparing with model groups, there was a significantly lower T level in the positive control group (P<0.05) , and the T level had an extreme decrease in the high dose group of TCM (P<0.01)。. Compared to the level of serum E2 in each group, all had different increase than the blank group. Among the total, the E2 level of model group raised significantly (P<0.05) , and the high dose group of Shengfaling had a further more increase (P<0.01) . Compared to the values of T/ E2 in each group, it was extremely lower to T/ E2 in the high dose group of TCM Shengfaling than others (P<0.01) . Compared to the amount of lost hair in each group, it increased extremely significantly than the blank control group (P<0.01) . Compared to model groups, the amount of lost hair had an extremely significant decrease (P<0.01) in each administration group. Compared to serum lipids, the TG level of blank control group was lower than others. There was a high serum lipids phenomenon after injected with Testosterone Propionate in rats, while the middle dose group of TCM Shengfaling can reduce TG level extremely (P<0.01) . Compared to serum TCHO in each group, there was no significant difference (P>0.05).Conclusion: There was clear disorder in sex hormone, together with blood lipids increase in seborrheic alopecia rats. TCM Shengfaling Granules can normalize the disorder hormone and lower blood lipids.
