Senile dementia (Alzheimer's disease, AD) is a kind of memory impairment, cognitive impairment, personality change characterized by brain degeneration disease, the pathological changes are mainly senile plaques (SP), neurofibrillary tangles (NFT), amyloid deposition and neuronal vacuoles degeneration and loss of a large number. Therefore, prevention and treatment of dementia is an urgent subject for senile dementia, worldwide by the medical research. This paper from the angle of learning from TCM meridian, theoretical analysis the relationship between the Governor vessel and the senile dementia, and the main contents in this paper are:The first part is a brief overview of the present Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine understanding of Alzheimer's disease.The second part, summarizes the course of the Governor Vessel, contact the viscera, physiological functions and pathological changes. and then deduces the relationship between the Governor Vessel and the dementia, that the Governor Vessel contact organs like brain, kidney, heart dysfunction and the Governor Vessel stasis can lead the qi weak and can cause senile dementia such as mind diseases.The third part lists the literatures about clinical and experimental research reports and typical cases which from 1990 to present, and prove close relevance between the Governor Vessel and senile dementia from the practice.The fourth part summarizes the analysis the therapeutic principles, treatment approaches and common points from the Governor Vessel, and for clinical use of reference.The purpose of this paper is intended to discuses the Governor Vessel and the relationship between Alzheimer, and clearly the Governor Vessel contacts viscera and the Governor Vessel itself in the treatment of senile dementia, the importance of study for clinical treatment and research provides reference senile dementia.
