Clinical Applications, The Treatment Of Pain Syndrome. River Point

Houxi point was named from"Lingshu benshu". It was the Shu point of the small intestine meridian and one of the confluent acupoints of eight extraordinary meridians, connected with Du meridian. It has the function of dredging meridians and promoting flow of qi and blood. So it can treat acute and chronic pain of limbs and joints and heavy sensation of body.On the basis of summaries"Clinical application of Houxi point"and"clinical study of treating pain syndrome by acupuncture and moxibustion", the author summarizes the clinical experience of treating acute lumbar twist and stiff neck altogether 68 cases.The clinical application of Houxi point was pain symptoms in ancient, which included the pain on shoulder, elbow, limbs, hypochondrium and fingers, headache, reddish and painful eyes. It can also relieve exterior syndrome and treat malaria. In modern clinic, Houxi point was used widely for acute lumbar twist, stiff neck, periarthritis of shoulder, migraine, sciatica, talalgia, chest and rib pain, throat pain and so on. It can also treat hordeolum, epilepsy, acute urticaria, facial spasm, night sweating. The main mechanism of Houxi treating pain symptoms is five aspects. 1. Making acupuncture in one meridian can treat symptoms on this meridian. 2. Mostly using penetration needling method, so one needling can puncture many points. 3. Qi flows into meridians and connects small intestine meridian and bladder meridian, Du meridian. 4. The outside and inside of the body have connection, and regulating mind can decrease pain. 5. Motion needling can treat acute pain quickly. At present, there are many clinical practice reports. However, we lack the evidence-based medical observation and experimental study for mechanism. These should be strengthened in future.The clinical study of acupuncture treating pain syndrome outlined the history of pain syndrome, explored the etiology and pathogenesis of pain syndrome and found that was either exogenous pain or internal pain, and the treatment principle focused on regulating Qi and spirit. Point Selection rule should conform to the theory of TCM, that is treating biao in emergency and ben in chronic, integrating local points and remote points, integrating point selection based on syndrome differentiation and disease differentiation. At the same time, there are integrating point selection based on clinical experience and modern animal experimental study. However, the current study does not fully reflect the overall meridian system in the role of acupuncture analgesia. The mechanism study of specific point treating specific pain is very limited. We need deep research in future.This article summarizes clinical therapeutic effect of treating acute pain by Houxi point altogether 68 cases which is acute lumbar twist 38 cases and stiff neck 30 cases. In accordance with the"standards of TCM syndrome diagnosis and treatment"assessment: the effective rate was respectively 97.37% and 93.33%. The main experience is: treating acute pain syndrome has significant effect, often applying motion needling, using penetration needling method, so one needling can effect many points. There are three typical cases attached.
