This thesis has reviewed the understanding of the etiology pathology and treatment methods of COPD in Tradithional Chinese Medicine both in ancient times and in present age. This paper sums up the present research situation of mordern medical science about pathogenesis and treatment of COPD. At the base of learning the clinical practice and academic thoughts of my mentor M.D. Shi suofang, we think accumulation of phlegm-heat in the lung and deficiency of qi (vital energy) of the lung and spleen are the central pathological segment: Invigoration the spleen with heat-clearing the lung is the major medication of attack stage in COPD.In clinical trial, we used the granule of invigorating the spleen with heat-clearing the pulmonary combining with west medical treatments, compared to the only west medical treatment to treat 68 cases of attack stage in COPD patients. The results indicated that the first treatment group could improve the clinical symptoms of patients more significantly; It could improve the function of lung more significantly, more significantly reducing the degrees of inflammation.We made the animal model of COPD. In animal experiment we discussed the pharmacological mechanism of the granule of invigorate the spleen with heat-clearing the pulmonary in COPD. This pharmacological effects were proved to include: (1) It could restrain the pathological increase of NO to reduce the degree of lessen the cytotoxcity effect.; (2) It could increase SOD and lower MDA so to regulate the balance of oxidation and anti-oxidation. (3) It could heighten IL-2 in BALF reinforcing the body cellular immunity.
