| Ploycystic ovarian syndrome, known as a common gynecological endocrine disease, is clinically one of the most frequently etiolohical factors that cause the disorder young womens menstruation and one of the main reasons to result in the womens infertile.The sclerosis polycystic ovary was found a century ago. A case was reported by Chereau in 1845; and until 1935 seven cases were first reported of amenorrhea, hairy, obesity and enlargement of two ovaries and polycystic change by Stein and Leventhal. After this, more and more similar cases were reported without typical pathologic signs but with typical polycystic histology change in ovary, that's why it is called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Bilateral wedge resection of ovary was the main therapy of western medicine in the early stage. Since 1961, effect of drug treatment has been improved increasingly and become the first choice; but each drug has different side effects and reactions on patients, sometimes even no effect; so the laparoscope operation become the new therapy of PCOS with the development of laparoscope operation technique in recent years.In our country, the main treating methods are taking western medicine or surgery; but surgery is hard to accept by patients, so thedrug of promoting ovulation is the main method for PCOS such as Clomiphen (CC). CC is the common drug for treating PCOS. Since Kistner and Smith reported to induce ovulation by using CC in1960, there have been thousands articles reporting that CC has good result for PCOS, amenorrhea, unsoundness of luteum etc. It has advantages of low price and less side effects as well as disadvantages of high ovulation rate (75-90%), low cyesis rate (30-40%) and leading to lupeinized unruptured follicle (LUF) which induce inadequate luteal function after ovulation; furthermore, there are 20% patients have no reaction to CC in the clinic. Surgical therapy: Bilateral wedge resection of ovary has been used since 1906 for treating PCOS, but seldom used after Goldzieher pointed out in 1962 that the surgery could lead to many complications such as internal hemorrhage, pelvic inflammation, especial adhesion which occurred in 30% patients and leading to infertility even premature ovarian failure. Katz and Cohon treated 740 patients with PCOS by laparoscopic wedge resection of ovary in 1984 with high normal menstruation recovery and liveborn rate (95%, 75%). Besides laparoscopic wedge resection of ovary, the follicle puncture, electric coagulation and laser also can be done under laparoscope to induce outflow of ovary fluid which cause decreasing of estrogen and.androgen in the blood and get good result.Modern clinical pharmacology study proved that some herbs tonifying kidney such as shudi, shanzhuyu have hormone-like effect.
