Taking Hengyang as case, this thesis mainly focuses on the relation between economic growth and higher education in Hengyang, calculating the contribution of high education to economic growth and putting up the measures to promoting economic growth by higher education from 1990 to 2009.Firstly, it analyzes the development of higher education and economy in Hengyang. It shows that the development of higher education level is basically in with the level of economic development. Based on it, we use the correlation analysis to analyze their relationship.Secondly, using data from 1990 to 2009, we test the causality between higher education and economic growth of Hengyang. The causality test results showed that real economic growth promoted development of high education in Hengyang, and the growth rate of higher education improved the growth rate of real economy. We obtained the long-term equilibrium relationship between higher education development and economic growth.Thirdly, we calculate the contribution rate of higher education to economic growth of Hengyang. By calculating the contribution of higher education on economic growth from 1990 to 2005, the result is 6.38% and 0.601% of the higher education to economic growth rate. Comparing this result with other results, we indicate the reasons .Finally, based on the actual situation and analytical conclusions in Hengyang, we correspond with countermeasures. The measures mainly include of constantly optimizing the structure of the local university personnel training based on the needs of society, enhancing the capacity of higher education to serve the community, improving scientific research capacity, and optimizing investment in education.
