The dynamic evolution law of space-time on inbound tourist flows has been one of the main content of Tourism Geography researches. It also has been reflected the the law of dynamic changes in the space displacement process of tourism principal—tourist. The results of the researches have important theoretical and practical significance on tourism planning, marketing, Product Designing and tourism management. Because of the tourism development strategy and policy, abundance of tourism resources, location condition, depth of tourism planning and development, facilities degree, the level of servic and many other factors, the development of China's inbound tourism in three regions (East, Central and West) has clearly showed "Matthew effect". This phenomenon aroused the general concern of academia and government. The paper relyed on the projet of National Natural Science Foundation in China(research on progressive evolution mechanism in Space-time of China's inbound tourist flows in typical areas between the East and West) which the author personally participated and authority statistics released by China National Tourism Administration. It used a new perspective of fractal theory to study the hierarchical structure and correlation within provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions of the inbound tourism flows'system in Yangtze River corridor. The study revealed running status, track and the interaction about the inbound tourist flows' system in Yangtze River corridor, which can provide guidance to inbound tourism market expandation, cooperation and the development of regional tourism, tourism planning and tourism management. Meanwhile, Yangtze River runs through three regions, the status and the track of inbound tourism of it is the "microcosm". Scientific research on inbound tourist flows in Yangtze River will provide theoretical basis on breaking the current uneven development among the inbound tourism of the three regions.Full-text contents of this study were the following:First, this article analyzed and demonstrated feasibly and reasonably that the use of fractal theory to study inbound tourism flows. Then, colleted, sorted, combed and summaried related literature and data of Tourism Geography which reserched from the perspective of fractal and obtained the progress and shortage of Fractal Theory Research. The paper also systematically sorted out the basics of fractal theory to lay a solid theoretical basis for the sequential studies.Second, it used Zipf's law for further verifing fractal characteristics of inbound tourism flows in the Yangtze River. The paper selected the data from 1994 to 2009 to study the hierarchical structure, operation status and developmental stages of inbound tourism flows'system on 11 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the Yangtze River from the diachronic point of view.Third, the author selectd four typical year and used the modified correlation dimension formula for calculating the correlation dimension of inbound tourism flows on 11 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the Yangtze River and quantitatively summaried the distribution stutas and equilibrium evolution law. This research was concluded as follows:First, the research from the perspective of fractal on inbound tourism flows'system of the Yangtze River was feasible. First of all, this article analyzed that using fractal theory for researching the system of inbound tourism flows was easibility and rationality. It aslo verified that inbound tourism flows'system of the Yangtze River had fractal characteristics through the empirical study.Second, Zipf dimension q on inbound tourism flows'system of the Yangtze River was between 1 and 2 excepting for individual years. This showed that distribution of inbound tourism flows within the Yangtze River Basin was dispersed, and the difference of hierarchical structure within the system was significant. The inbound tourism flows'system of region experienced 4 stages of development which replaced between smoothly and unevenly from 1994 to 2009. And the stability of the system was a temporary state but dynamic evolution will become the sustainable development trend.Third, the correlation dimension on inbound tourism flows of 11 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in Yangtze River within the scope of 0 and 1, and showed growth trend year by year. This indicated that the spatial distribution of inbound tourism flows in provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions was tended to dispersion, and the association was stronger. The main innovation of the paper was:First, regared the development path and the status of China's inbound tourism flows in Yangtze River corridor as the "microcosm" of the whole country. The paper chosen it for the object of study was typical. The conclusions had some practical guidance for the development of inbound tourism of the country.Second, the introduction of fractal theory to study the system of inbound tourism flows broke the limitations of traditional quantitative research methods for inbound tourism flows and provided a new thinking and perspective for researches. In view of the possibility of error for the use of data, constraints of the energy and capacity and other factors, this study only did a preliminary study to attract valuable comments. Tourist flows' system as a giant system, its operation not only effected by elements of the system, also related to external environmental factors. Comprehensive, systematic, scientific analysis of the tourist flows' system also needed further study.
