With the key advantages of high speed, long transmission distance and high efficiency, GPON(Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is a kind of access technology which catering the NGN (Next Generation Network) technology, providing channel for the new arrival of Ethernet service with higher bandwidth.As the rapid development of network and sharp increase of the user number, the demands of operator to operate & manage the network are more and more, typically including clients authentication charging,IP distribution,security,service support operation ability and so on. The clients authentication is the key point. It means clients identifying and authorizing, which is the precondition of charging and implement security mechanism to clients and the foundation of supporting and developing of multi-service. The core authentication technologies of this thesis are DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)option82 and PPPoE+(Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet).This paper included six parts.First, it will show the background of research and fore main authentication technologies.Second, it will introduce GPON system, including the functions that realized in GPON standard and the network structure of GPON system.The third chapter, it will discuss the protocol that realizes the authentication in GPON system, including the operation principle,option/tag which are needed for realization of authentication function, and packet format of DHCP and PPPoE, at last analyze their feature separately. The fourth chapter will present overall plan for realization of DHCP and PPPoE authentication in GPON system, and provide the schemes of message processing. The fifth chapter provided the software structure of authentication models detailed, and described the realization of message processing explicitly. The last chapter will summarize all the work.
