Wireless sensor networks(WSN), which have integrated wireless communication, data collection and information processing capacities, are booming technologies for collecting information in distributed and self-organized manner. It takes full advantage of grouping dynamically and multi-hop characteristics of the Ad Hoc network. The nodes which are used to communicate and apperceive information can move, it doesn't require the laying of lines, operate simply and network low-costly. Wireless sensor networks and its application, which have been become research hotspots in academia and industry, have a very broad prospects in the military and civilian areas. Applying sensor networks in coal mine security monitoring will upgrade the mine safety level and reduce the hidden accident significantly. With this research background, this thesis focuses on the position and routing technology of wireless sensor networks.In order to known where the monitored events are occurring in the coal mine, the information of node's position is necessary. The information of position is of great significance to identify the specific position sites of emergencies and to track underground staff. This thesis firstly analyses the positioning technology in the wireless sensor networks. Then the position algorithm based on the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) is proposed and optimized for the coal mine environment in this thesis, consequently several factors which affect the position precision is analyzed. Simulations results show that the optimized algorithm based on RSSI improve the position precision effectively.The sensor nodes, which are arranged in the coal mine, transmit the collecting communication data to other nodes real-time, until send to monitoring station. So monitoring staff can make timely analysis and response. As wireless sensor network nodes have limited resources and traditional routing protocol of wireless network are not suitable for wireless sensor networks, so the design of network routing algorithm is a major task. After analyzing the routing protocol in the wireless sensor networks, this thesis bring forward a route protocol of AODV used in coal mine. It can effectively meet the real-time monitoring of the coal mine wireless sensor network application. Then we use the simulation software of OMNET++ to test this protocol's function, and analyze the test results.
