As a p2mp or mp2mp technology, IP multicast is widely used in the area which joined multicast points such as video meeting, network program, distance education and the like. From the current development situation, the area joined multicast points mainly focus on QoS of the network. But the technology of IP multicast is not good at QoS. MPLS which develops fast in the recent years can meet our demand. As a result, the MPLS technology combines with IP multicast (MPLS Multicast) will be an inevitable trend.MPLS multicast can not only creat a flexible tree structure in IP layer,but also have a rapid switch abliblity in link layer. It can provide a high QoS level which fully meets people's double demand in both bandwidth and QoS. It can be predicted that MPLS multicast will be applied in real-time multimedia traffic control which has p2mp or mp2mp topology in the future. Nevertheless, the applications of MPLS now focus on IP unicast at most of the time.MPLS multicast has not issued a uniform standard yet, which seriously affected its development. Based on the actual situation and the background, I have done research work as follow:(1) Study the related theories of IP Multicast and MPLS.(2) Analyse the problems and technical difficulties I will meet when research MPLS multicast.(3) Propose two kinds of solutions after research how to realize PIM-SM Shared Distribution Tree and Source Distribution Tree under MPLS. One way is creating multicast first and then mapping the LSP tree. The other way is using Join/Prune message to create LSP multicast tree.(4) After comparing these two solutions, I prefer to the way of using Join/Prune message to create LSP multicast tree to realize MPLS multicast. The advantage of this scheme is that establishing multicast tree and mapping labels at the same time can greatly reduce the setup time of multicast tree and maintain the MPLS multicast tree more effectively.(5) Design a system implementation for MPLS multicast with the platform of SW research in company.(6) Design an implementation of networking for MPLS multicast.
