This subject proceeds from elaborating the dangers of forest fires and the importance of implementation of forest fires monitoring, doing a survey on implementation of forest fires monitoring which shows out the deficiencies of traditional forest fire monitoring. From that survery, a system is proposed: using infrared thermal imaging to monitor forest fires, with the advantages of infrared thermal imaging to compensate for the incomplete of traditional monitoring of forest fires. This subject includes an infrared thermal imaging system, H.264 standard real-time video encoding and compression system, GPRS radio channel data transmission and control system and field power supply system. The whole subject starts with the introduction of the basic principles of infrared thermal imaging, infrared thermal imaging detection band selection and the basic component of thermal imager, analysising infrared thermal imaging technology that applied to various fields as well as the domestic and international developing trends and pointing out the infrared thermal imaging advantages and disadvantages. It also explains the feasibility of implementation of forest fires monitoring, focusing on exploring and researching on infrared thermal imaging technology, photovoltaic technology, image processing, image enhancement and image filtering technology in the infrared thermal imaging technology, as well as on GPRS operation principle, GPRS terminals transmit data on the image compression technology, digital signal transmission technology and digital signal decompression reduction technology. Several experimental studies have shown that by using infrared thermal imaging technology, monitoring of hidden fire hazard early and When a fairly perfect system of implementation of forest fires monitoring is completed, eliminate hidden dangers and prevent fires to save the loss. Promote forest fire monitoring by applying infrared thermal imaging to it has important practical significance, it is a breakthrough in forest fire monitoring, it also has economic value, scientific value and high practical value. The subject also searchs on the system design process, explore some practical problems and finally finds out their solutions. For instance, major problem in the system power supply when working in the wilderness of the system. The problem will be solved by making solar energy or wind energy into electrical energy to power to the system.
