The telecom industry is a classic example of a data-intensive/rich industry. In line with the ongoing liberalization and increasing sophistication of the industry, competition has intensified. Telecom players has increasingly recognized the importance of customer relationships and have accordingly installed operation analysis systems, to analyze the implications of market developments as well as to manage customer relationships. Compared to other industries, the telecom industry has access to more user data. Telecom players who can mine these user data meaningful will be able to provide more services and discover more commercial opportunities, gaining an edge over the other players.Databases and mult-dimensionality exhibit technology can convert user data into useful information to support and determine operating strategy. As such, the application of databases and mult-dimensionality exhibit technology can provide strong value to the telecom industry. This article begins with an analysis of the structure and functions of the telecom industry's business systems, moving on to the data metrics required for an analysis of their database structure, model and operating, so as to construct a multi-modular database model. Using the Cognos database application to construct a database as well as the multidimensional analysis functionality of Cognos to engage in a multi-angle analysis and data-mining.We will then move on to the specific technologies/techniques involved in the usage of the Oracle database to extract data to construct a database.A multidimensional analysis of revenue and customer base, the two most direct measures of the telecom industry's competitiveness and development, combined with actual development arising from market policy, can enable an accurate analysis of operational issues. This will allow the telecom industry to effectively implement management decisions, increase efficiencies and market competitiveness.
