Nowadays various configuration softwares are used in the automation field in the water supply industry at home. However, the configuration software is expensive. Its billing is based on the nodes of installation and the I/O points. Many of its functions are unnecessary for the single monitoring system adopted by small businesses, which may lead to waste of resources. In addition, the configuration software has its drawbacks and therefore cannot meet some special requirements. In order to provide cost-effective monitoring software with complete functions for small and medium-sized customers, it is necessary to adopt a new technology with both characteristics of common configuration software and incomparable programming flexibility with common configuration software as well as the ability to build a simple monitoring system with rapidity. Therefore, based on the design of Lab VIEW+DSC development platform, using graphical programming technique to design a suitable monitoring software for small and medium-sized customers is to realize this goal in an effective way.This paper first analyzes the development of computer monitoring system and makes detailed investigation and description on demand for city water-supply supervisory control system. It designed a system architecture with three tiers on the basis of analysis. It has made speicfic discussion on OPC technology and Xcontrols technology, which are the pivotal technologies adopted in the system, and Citadel datasheet. It also has made a brief introduction on hardware components and communication protocol in the system. Second, this paper discusses a detailed design process of foreground user interface, background data processing procedures, real-time display of switch alarm, and remote control operation. Next, it puts forward the specific implementation in three ways to enhance the security of the system.Finally, it bulds up a data acquisition and control system while it has completed the data connection with the data acqusition terminal by performing a programm design for the serial communication port. This system has a test-controlled software with a good interface, easy operation and high security and so on.Online testing shows that this technology is cost effective and feasible in practical application. The design idea and method this paper adopts is universal so that with m-inor modification it can be applied to other automation production industries.Various problems may be involved in practical applications of this monitoring sys-tem. This paper only discusses the design of its basic function. More in-depth study of network connection, data processing and data analysis later.
