LED panel displays text, graphics, images, animation, and the other information as well as television, video signals through some ways and is composes by LED array. With the characteristics of high brightness, visibility distance and low cost, many public have already used the LED display to replace original billboard and plaques. Many big screens also use LED panel instead of traditional LCD screen.In order to meet users'requirement of using the LED panel easily, this paper designs a LED display and PC interface system. The controller of lower computer is STC89C51 MCU; 74HC154 composes display line expansion circuit; 74HC595 controls column drive circuit. LED panel is consisted by the 8×8LED dot matrix module. Each light emitting diode diameter is 3.75 mm and the center distance of LED dot matrix module is 4.75mm. The system matrix screen size is 64×32. It means 64 lines and 32 columns. Each of four basic dot matrix modules forms a screen of one character size. Thus, the design uses 32 modules to compose the LED panel. By programming the MCU, MCU controls the screen to display eight characters which is consisted by 16×16 dot matrix.The PC software designs LED display control system in Visual Studio .NET development environment. The control system generates the Chinese character font binary code, sends data to the MCU through serial port, and replaces the contents of LED panel. The management system can change the font displaying in the screen. The PC software system can simultaneously produce lattice code words for one to four, including dot matrix code generation of letters and numbers. Through set the serial communication port and baud rate between MCU and PC. it can achieve the communication with MCU. VB and language C is applied to write code and simulation debugging. Through stimulation in Proteus development environment, it achieves real-time display, static display and dynamic display of Chinese characters, and has the function of switch keys to change display's state. It also draws LED display schematic, makes PCB board, and debugging success.The system can be applied to billboards, information card, railway stations, banks and other places. It achieves the whole display contents moving up, left, static, and automatic cycle display. It has switch keys to change display state of details. And it achieves real-time display. The management software on PC controls LED display to update the content.
