Civil Aircraft Maintenance Risk Management Study

Aircraft, which is the main operative tool for civil aviation industry, is the physical foundation to guarantee the flight safety. Therefore, aircraft maintenance is deemed one of the most important factors in civil aviation safety and airlines'benefit as well.Compared with the exterior factors such as airplane design, weather/meteorology, air traffic control, etc, maintenance is one of the few interior "controllable factors". Rational attention to and scientific investment in this field is a significant means to improve flight safety level, which has gained more and more recognition by airlines'managers. However, how to transform this common recognition into systematic and effective risk management measures is a controversially discussed difficult issue.Based upon the deep understanding that the safety is vital to civil aviation industry, this thesis, while starting with identification and analysis of the risk, then analyzing, assessing and evaluating the main causes of maintenance-related errors, tries to apply risk management philosophy to the civil aviation maintenance management, in an attempt to put forward risk controlling measures to diminish maintenance errors and prevent the air accidents from happening.
