Kunming Transportation Planning Model Improvement

Nowadays, urban transportation planning is more and more important. It aims at promoting the efficiency of the transportation network, managing the urban transportation by progressive ways, utilizing the roads properly, etc. By the developing of the computer technology, supporting of the planning software, applying of GIS-T, perfecting of the transportation planning theory, transportation planning could be studied quantificationally.TransCAD, combines GIS with travel demand model, is an excellent tool for studying urban transportation planning and model result for research. This paper analyzes Kunming transportation planning issues partly by this software.Kunming, in the southeast of China, enjoys great economy and transportation developments. More and more autos have been bringing huge pressures to the urban transportation system. It is necessary to rebuild the urban transportation planning model. The transportation planning model of this paper which combines urban transportation network model and urban traffic management evaluation model could offer some suggestion.First, this paper designs a transportation network model of Kunming with one way traffic flow lines. According to the traffic investigation data and some design criteria, the attributes of the network are modified. A transportation network model based on the four-stage method is built. In this model, many parameters are modified to fit the characters of Kunming transportation system. An OD matrix is received by an OD estimation model using the turning traffic counts. An urban traffic management evaluation model is built by analytic hierarchy process. In the end, as an application example of this model, a non-left-turn management project is discussed.The new model, which is adaptable, includes transportation network model and traffic management evaluation model. This paper could give some suggestions to thetransportation planning work.
