| With the development of vehicle to the direction of large-scale and heavy-duty, especially the overload and oversize transportation in main highways is on the rise, the pavement quality shows a decreasing trend annually. Some pavement diseases like crack, rutting, settlement and hollow spot appear, these diseases bring down the pavement quality, affect the operation management and traffic safety. Immediate maintenance measures must be taken to restore the pavement quality to a good level.In this paper, based on a large number of traffic investigation, characteristics and distribution of typical diseases for asphalt pavement were studied and the formation mechanism of various diseases were analyzed. Evaluation methods of indexes for functional performance and structural performance were also researched in this paper. On this basis, treatment measures of local disease and holistic maintenance plans suitable for various conditions of asphalt pavement were proposed. According to the research methods main diseases of trunk highway for Yulin in Shaanxi Province were analyzed and the main areas of diseases were determined. Then special Holistic Maintenance Plans for the two cities were recommended.
