Nuclear power project is time-consuming and exposed to the risk of huge loss in accidents. It requires large investments, high techniques and professional technicians. So, it has attracted attention of the government and the public. The first nuclear power station in Northeast China is Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Station. Its 900 MW pressurized water reactors project applied China's first CPR1000 nuclear power technical line which is our own brand. It was the first time to build 4 million-kilowatts of standardized nuclear power plants on scale simultaneously. After the completion, the energy structure in the Northeast China will be improved, the electricity supplement will be sufficient, the pollution will be reduced and nuclear power equipment manufacture will be boosted. Hence, the risk management of 900 MW pressurized water reactors project of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Station is very important to keep the project executing safely.Present study used the knowledge of risk management to identify the risk of the 900 MW pressurized water reactors project and analyzed the geographical environment, domestic technology and nuclear power risks. Combining the characters of nuclear power industry, we also analyzed the risks during the construction, operation and maintenance phase to draw up warning plan and investigate approaches to strengthen management to avoid accidents in the project.Our results demonstrated that (a) project risk management is playing an important role in the 900 MW pressurized water reactors project. It will effectively help to avoid accidents, increase the economic and social benefits and guarantee the achievement of the prospective goals. (b) The geographic location of this project is the second terraces sounded by sea on three sides which is one of the most appropriate regions for nuclear power project. (c) China's own band, the CPR1000 nuclear power technique compared with the second-generation technique of France has some improvements and satisfactory security capabilities. (d) It would be necessary to designate restricted areas around the plants, to monitor the solid waste, gas and liquid radioactive emissions regularly, to draw up plans and measures for emergency, to limit the vessels and so on. These will maintain the nuclear security effectively.Through the risk identification, analysis and control, we could carry out institutions to improve the capabilities of risk management, standardize the risk management operations and optimize and enhance the procedure of risk management. Ultimately, an efficient, collaborative and effective risk management system will be created.
