| Taking cities as the carriers, urban-based leisure activities are the sum of people's leisure concepts, their leisure behaviors, and the supply and demand for leisure consumption in the related leisure industries, which are closely related fields of life in leisure, recreation, and leisure needs (both physical and mental).In the leisure times, some traditional tourism cities, relying on abundant and distinctive resources and recreational facilities and the casual atmosphere in the cities, vigorously develop the leisure industry by fostering the development of city leisure strategically and optimizing the traditional service industries. Chengdu is a city with superior leisure environment, unique recreational resources, full-bodied culture and geographical landscape. Under the background that the national economy has been growing continuously, people's living standards have been improving, the Engel coefficient has been declining steadily and leisure-related expenditures has kept rising, the study of leisure and recreation industry in the city of Chengdu has become a frontier problem of city planning and development. Methodologically, this paper integrates the theoretical research with empirical research, the qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis, and the surveys with statistical analysis. On the basis of the research about concepts and related theories of leisure and recreation industry home and abroad, and the survey of urban residents as well as the experts'points in Chengdu city, an evaluation index system of urban-based leisure activities is built in this paper. At the same time,the potential and present development status of the leisure industry in Chengdu are comparatively analyzed from the horizontal and vertical facets. And countermeasures about the development of leisure industry in Chengdu are proposed from the macro-level and micro-level aspects. The following results are concluded in this paper:(l) On the basis of a lot of literature reading and reference, 40 sub-targets are initially proposed. Through a questionnaire survey to Chengdu residents as well as the experts'evaluation points,an assessment system of urban-based leisure activities index is built for quantitative analysis of Chengdu City leisure.(2) Through horizontal and vertical comparative analysis, there are still some gaps between Chengdu and the economically developed cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou in the overall strength of the economy, the proportion of the tertiary industry, service facilities and the environment, residents'concept of leisure and consumption patterns as well as changes in the direction of government policy. However,in recent years,with the high-speed economic growth in Chengdu, the increase of residents'leisure time, the popularity of leisure concepts, and the growth of disposable income, a rapid development trend is shown in Chengdu City leisure.(3)From present development status of the Chengdu tourism and leisure industry, four leading industries—cultural industries, the exhibition industry, sports industry, and the entertainment industry—are analyzed. With good prospects for development, Chengdu leisure industry is a principal component of the urban economic growth. (4) Based on the analysis of the current situation and the actual data, useful suggestions are put forward on how to make full use of the present recreational resources, to further explore the potential recreational resources, and to integrate various industry forms from the macro level and micro level, which may provide necessary data and reference to the relevant government sections for further developing and strengthening the leisure industry in Chengdu. |
