A Study On The Post-expo Development Trend Of Shanghai Meeting And Exhibition Industry

What kind of impact will Expo 2010 held in Shanghai exert on the development of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry? What kind of development trend will post-expo Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry show? What do people think of and do they have confidence in the development of post-expo Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry? These are the questions that this paper tries to answer.This paper, which combines prediction of meeting and exhibition industry and post-expo study, takes Expo 2010 as a line of demarcation and explores how Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry will develop in the future from a new perspective. It can be divided into three major parts: the operation of meeting and exhibition industry in Shanghai, the post-expo development curve of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry and the confidence index of the post-expo development of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry.Firstly, this paper analyzes the operation of meeting and exhibition industry in Shanghai, which works as the reality premise for the study on post-expo development of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry. Then, based on industry life cycle and mega-event effects theories, the development experience of well-developed meeting and exhibition city and the post-expo development of the city where expo held, it determines that Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry stays in the growing-up period and establishes the post-expo development curve of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry, which reveals that as soon as the Expo 2010 is over, the sales of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry will have a sharp fall, but is still more than that of no-expo condition, and then experience a rapid rebound and maintain the rapid pace to move forward. Meanwhile, based on the confidence index theory, using a questionnaire survey, interview and SPSS, it explores peoples' prediction of the development trend of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry before and after Expo 2010 and establishes the confidence index of the post-expo development of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry. This confidence index shows that people have great confidence in the post-expo development of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry and that most people believe Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry will take on an upward development trend after Expo 2010, which verifies the development curve.Through theoretical research and empirical analysis, this paper comes to three basic conclusions: first, the post-expo development of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry will show an upward trend; second, Shanghai people's confidence index of pos-expo development of Shanghais meeting and exhibition industry is slightly lower than that of people in other regions; third, meeting and exhibition industry and tourism employees' confidence index of pos-expo development of Shanghai meeting and exhibition industry is higher than that of other groups.This paper is expected to not only add new knowledgeable elements and empirical case to forecast of meeting and exhibition industry and theories of industry life cycle, mega-event effects and confidence index, but also provide a useful basis for government to formulate policies and regulate the development of meeting and exhibition industry, for meeting and exhibition and tourism enterprises to make decision and draw up development strategies.
