The family business is a kind of backward enterprise system as well as a kind of outdated managing method in people's impression. However, this enterprise system still has large presence no matter in the developed countries or in developing countries, and it also plays an important role in the social economy. The particularity of the family business is that an enterprise linked with a family. The change of life cycle and structure of family members will make the family business has its own unique life cycle. In this cycle the matter of succession to the family business is important and it is also the most vulnerable moment.According to Mr. Astrachan's estimates, 30% of the American family business can be inherited by the second generation successfully; 12% by the third generation; However, it is less than 3% of family business can be inherited by the fourth generation, it was rare that can be inherited by the six generation like Ford, and they will suffer a lot during the period. Since its reform and opening-up, China's family business was fully developed, some years ago China's family business have endured the first test of wealth transmission after nearly 20 years of rapid growth. But from those succession process taken place and are taking place recently, there are still many problems in the current family business succession process, such as personal ability, interests, preferences and so on. How to escape from the curse "wealth can't be passed above three generation" , becomes the question which need to be more concerned with and be solved by the family business.Family business succession is the process of transmission from entrepreneurs to successors about its ownership and management. This process is not only the transmission of family property, prestige and social status, but also the management right. In the thesis, the defination of succession is the family business management succession, and regard it as the focus for further study.In this article, I use the comparative study to analyze the family business succession model, characteristics and the reasons in choosing a particular mode in Europe, the United States, Southeast Asia, Japan and China. From the angle of the traditional culture, the cost of trust and the external legal environment, I'll make a comparison among these countries with succession model. Base on these, I can make a conclusion that in the current conditions of our country, family business succession model will still take "Son's Succeeding to Management Position" as its main form. Along with the improvement of the legal environment and the establishment and perfection of the professional managers' market, our family business is bound to the direction of the public company. Its successor model will come to the pattern of "Son's Succeeding to Management Position" and as a non-family member professional managers successor coexist from the "Son's Succeeding to Management Position" pattern.Meanwhile, I'll combine empirical analysis and case study together to briefly analyze the problems and the causes of current domestic family business succession process.For sure, Western enterprises' development experience in the past 200 years also shows that it is not easy that domestic enterprises to take non-family member professional managers as successor. It will need a long time, the improvement of internal and external environment of family business, the total changeover in special family thought not only for entrepreneurs even for the whole family. It also need to choose a suitable succession model which fits them well according to their own development as well as personal capacity of the successor, the improvement of the professional manager's market and legal environment. Aiming at solving the curse" wealth can't be passed above three generation ", to get further development.
