China Yangtze Power co. Ltd (hereinafter referred to as CYPC) has played an important role in the capital market as well as in the power market since it was listed in Shanghai stock exchange in 2003。After it was transformed to a public company from a SOE,it has made great progress in several important aspects。The asset quality of the company has been improved a lot, the earnings of the company has increased quickly and the employees of the company have been engaged in improving their capability. As so far CYPC has established a very good reputation in the capital and power markets. With the exploration of the hydropower resource in china, the company has great potential in hydropower generation At the same time, the reform of china power market will bring opportunities and challenges for the company. Facing up the opportunities and challenges, it is a critical task for the company to make the right development strategy.Development strategy management is one of the important parts of enterprise business management, which is also one important way to foster the sustainable competitive advantages. To implement the development strategy can help the company to acquire social repay and to develop more quickly and continuously. In modern market with fierce competition, one enterprise must make its own development strategy and build up its own useful strategy management system, which can help the company to maintain competitive advantage and acquire a stable and quick development.This paper introduces several theories related to the strategy management, and the conceptions, characteristics, levels and process of strategy management. It focuses on the general types of strategy management, PEST analysis and five competitiveness principles model, EFE matrix, IFE matrix and SWOT matrix. Taking CYPC as a sample, we analyze and appraise its outer environment, which includes macro-environment, industry environment and EFE, and its inner environment which includes its organizational structure, parent company, major business development, financial conditions, production cost structure, technology input, investment conditions, culture building, human resource and IFE. Based on the analysis of its inner and outer environment, we build a SWOT matrix. According to the implement principle of SWOT analysis, we figure out the strategic development goals and practicable development strategy for the company, and also provide a feasible specific implement plan for the company.
