With the development of competition, more and more companies form competitive strategic alliances, and the relationship with their rival turns to coopetition from pure competition. A substantial literature has evolved focusing on the strategic alliances from different aspects. However, most of the relevant studies are theoretical in nature and concentrate on the factors related to cooperative companies that influence the cooperative effect. Few attentions were given to the outside environment. However, alliances are surely affected by outside environment from systematic theory. The practice of alliancing in reality can achieve success only after we get the whole understanding of factors affecting the cooperative effect inside and outside. Based on this, the relationships between industry environment, specifically industry profitability, industry growth capacity, technical intensity, industry competition, industry concentration and industry variation, and cooperative effect are researched here by focusing on the manufacturing competitive strategic alliances, which is also one part of the project"the research of cooperative effect and efficiency boundary in competitive strategic alliance"approved by NSFC.Structural equation model is used in this paper to analyze. Conceptual model and questionnaire are formed based on literature research. After doing the investigation of manufacturing enterprises in Chongqing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou et al., validity and reliability of the index system is analyzed using SPSS 15.0. Then the hypotheses are tested with AMOS6.0. The results demonstrate that industry environment characteristics have great influence on cooperative effect. Specifically, industry profitability, industry growth capacity, technical intensity, industry competition and industry concentration have distinct positive effect on cooperative effect, and industry variation, no effect. With the further research, it is clear that industry profitability and growth capacity affect remarkably three of the dimensions of cooperative effect- competitive advantages, business effect and process satisfaction, but not to learning effect. Industry competition has distinct positive effect on the dimension of competitive advantages. Industry variation has negative effect on process satisfaction. The method of empirical study is adopted here to research the relationship between industry environment and cooperative effect, and the study from outside environment, industry environment, to explain the variations of cooperative effect pioneers the new view of research in this field. At the same time, the research educes a set of indexes which is approved of validity and reliability to measure industry environment and cooperative effect in competitive strategic alliances. Also the method of structural equation modeling is used to prove the relationship between key industry factors and cooperative effect, which gives us more complicated explanations of cooperative effect and may be useful for future research.
