In 2005,"The World Is Flat: a Brief History of the Twenty-first Centry"was published. The writer, Thomas L. Friedman's views are so unique that play an important influence in management, economics, politics, sociology and so on. He analyzes success that we have achieved and challenge that we will confront in the process of globalization in detail. He believes, the wold will be flat as technology brings opportunity for our world.The world has been concentrating technology progress all the while, and people's scientific literacy is thought of as crucial part to improve technology. Meanwhile, we also take measure to impove scientific literacy of people, such as American"2061 Program", investigation of public scientific literacy in 15 European countries, and many sequential investigations in our country.In our country, the scientific literacy of people have been improved evidently in recent years. However, it's still lower compared with developed countries.On July 2006, we engaged in investigation about scientific literacy of city public in 7 cities, finally we gathered 3981 questionaires. This study collected materials mainly through questionnaire survey, combined with interview.Based on the relevant theories of sociology stratification and socialization, it aims to examine the characteristics of Chinese city public's scientific literacy, and to explore the differences of scientific literacy among different groups. Furthermore, we use multiple regression method to examine the factors of different groups attaining scientific literacy.It shows that different groups of different age, different education attainment, different job, different income attain different scientific literacy.
