At present, there is a irreconcilable conflict between China’s population growth and theimprovement of the scientific and cultural literacy,which makes the improvement of publicscientific literacy is even more significant and more urgent. In addition, public scientificliteracy is an important indicator on the reflection overall competitiveness of a country orregion, because having a certain scientific literacy is a necessary requirement for the public todevelopment of economy and society. Basing on this, the study basing on Fujian secondpublic scientific literacy survey data at2010, evaluates the situation of public scientificliteracy in Fujian,identifies the key factors on the Fujian public whether have scientificliteracy by using Binary Logistic Regression Analysis, in finally, proposes policyrecommendations for increasing public scientific literacy.Through theoretical analysis and empirical research,the following tow conclusions areobtained. First, this study has investigated2120respondents and collected2119effectivesamples; the statistics shows that4.4percent of the whole samples are scientifically qualified,the rate increases2.11percent compared with2.29%in2004. Sencond, the binary logisticregression analysis method is used to identify the key factor whether the public in Fujian arescientifically qualified. The result indicates that gender,ethnicity,age,level of education,and the arts and sciences have a significant impact, while urban and rural areas and type ofoccupation do not show an obvious effect.Basing on the public survey data in Fujian,this paper identifies the key factors on theFujian public whether have scientific literacy by using Binary Logistic Regression Analysis,being the first time making a systematic empirical analysis in this field, which compensates forthe current defect in the field for focusing on theoretical analysis and simple descriptiveanalysis. This paper has a certain theoretical innovative significance.
