| Urbanization is an inevitable trend of social and economic development, so the level of urbanization manifests comprehensively the economic and social development, and people's material and cultural living standards in a region or a nation. As a significant symbol of social progress, urbanization is becoming the momentum and headspring of the continual growth of China's regional economy. As a province in the west of China, as well as an autonomous region, with the background of western development and multi-regional cooperation, Guangxi is now facing with a great opportunity brought forth by urbanization, which is to urbanize the region in a quick and healthy pace and realize the speedup of regional economical growth and social advancement. Therefore, there lays a theoretical and realistic significance to research and accurately evaluate the urbanization level of Guangxi.However, the measurement of urbanization level in use today is over simplex, and has one limitation. It can only depict characters from a certain aspect, but not completely and truly reflect a regional urbanization level. Therefore, it's necessary to establish an index system that can reflect the connotation of urbanization. The system adapts a comprehensive index evaluating method to evaluate the urbanization level of Guangxi scientifically. Then in the thesis some proposals based on the analytic results are given, hoping the policy-making departments in the government can benefit from it when they draw up plans and policies of development in the process of promoting urbanization.Based on the understanding of the content and nature of urbanization, the thesis analyses the problem, favorable conditions and constraints of urbanization of Guangxi. Then the synthetical index system of Guangxi's urbanization level is built from five aspects, which are economic development, social development, population development, construction of the city and ecological environment. The index system is used to evaluate and array the urbanization level of fourteen prefecture-level cities in Guangxi, and then the result is compared with that derived from the original simplex index system. At last, some proposals are given on the promotion of the urbanizing development of Guangxi.The structure of the thesis is as follows:The introduction mainly explains the background, purpose and significance of this research, and gives a general description of the research done in the field of evaluating urbanization levels at home and abroad.Chapter one: "The Basic Theory of Urbanization". It explains the meaning and nature of urbanization, and then introduces the supporting elements and general developing rules of urbanization.Chapter two: "The Current situation of Urbanization Development in Guangxi". It analyses the present characteristics and problems of urbanization of Guangxi, then the favorable conditions and constraints to the urbanization development of Guangxi.Chapter three: "Measurement of Urbanization Level of Guangxi". It adopts thirty-one indexes in aspects including economic development, social development, population development, construction of the city and ecological environment to build a comprehensive index system, which involves target part, guideline part and index part. The evaluation follows DARE method to fix the scale of each index, and follows the integrated method of linear weighted to measure and array the urbanization level of cities in Gunagxi in 2006. Then the result is compared with that derived from the original simplex index system. The urbanization level of each city is analyzed by comparing with five aspects in the index system.Chapter four: "Measures on Hastening the Urbanization Development of Guangxi". Based on the research and evaluation in chapter two and chapter three, some fundamental threads are brought forward for the urbanization development of Guangxi from a macro point of view, as well as some measures of development regarding the short-comings of the fourteen prefecture-level cities in Guangx from a micro point of view. |
