Research On Logistic Improvement Based On Six-Sigma Methodology

With the development of logistic management research, modern logistic has been regarded as"The third source of profit"besides reducing production cost and improving productivity. During the process of manufacturing in plants, activities like procuring materials, producing, or sale constitute logistic systems. As to manufacturing enterprises, the logistic expenditure generally lies between 5% to 35% of sales according to business type, location and the ratio of production to material. Therefore the cost of logistic is said to be one of the highest costs in business, just lower than material cost in manufacturing process or cost for retailing or wholesaling. Obviously, logistic management optimization will reduce enterprises'cost greatly.This thesis analyzed the applicability of whether six sigma management method could be used in logistic management improvement. Using LGWD company as the research case, we defined the critical question, analyzed data, designed the solution program, and proposed the control method for implementation on the basis of DMAIC model. Based on six sigma management methodology, this thesis discussed the method and model of how can it be used in logistic management improvement in enterprises.Although there are few articles discussed the combination possibility of six sigma management method and logistic improvement, with this case and the characteristics of six sigma management method and logistic management, we got such conclusions: (1) six sigma can provide method and technology for logistic improvement; (2) six sigma can provide principles and implementation frames for logistic improvement; (3) six sigma also can provide organization guarantee for internal logistic improvement.At last, this thesis also gave some advices on how to implement the project of logistic improvement based on six sigma method according to the implementation principles and processes of six sigma management method as well as the items included in logistic management.
