The theme is about the application of Key Performance Indicators to the performance management of middle managers.The article includes five parts. The first part discusses the actuality and the problems about the application of KPI performance management to the middle managers. It contains: It is consider that the human resource department should be mainly responsible for the performance management, and the middle managers has not really bring into play. The key performance indicators deviate from strategic object, or there is diversity in the enterprise, department and individual performance. The middle manages do not exerted themselves mightily during the KPI performance management, so can not perform it entirely. In the whole process the employees seldom take part in actively. Enterprises always take the performance management only for bonus distribution. The second part gives the correct understanding about the performance management system through making the differences of the performance assess and the performance management. The third part is the important one in the particle, it analyses that, as the middle manages of the enterprise, which are in the important position between superior and subordinate, how management competence they should have, which role that they should play, can they enhance the effect of the system. And the fourth part illustrates the designs of the key performance indicators. The fifth part tell about the KPI assess mode of the middle managers, and how can we set up an improved performance management for the middle managers.Through this period study I hope I can get more on the KPI performance management especially in the middle manages application, improve the study of the application of the performance management. But because of the knowledge and the study competence I have, I have not discuss for more, for example study the application of KPI on the basis of the Balance Scored Cards (BSC).
